7 signs of fraud in employment abroad

Signs of Illegal Employment

Among the many offers to earn abroad, one may encounter deception. Sergey Marchenko, development director of Work.ua, offers to check assistants in finding work abroad by 7 markers in order to calculate illegal employers and not fall into the tenacious hands of scams.
1. Lack of license of the Ministry of Social Policy

The first and easiest thing to check is the availability of a license from an intermediary, which helps you in finding a job abroad. A complete list of licensees can be found on the website of the Ministry of Social Policy, in the Department of the Labor Market and Employment of which the department for licensing activities related to mediation in employment abroad has been created.

In addition to the license, the intermediary company must have a certificate of state registration and an agreement with a foreign employer company.
2. Money for employment

According to paragraph 9.13 of the Cabinet of Ministers resolution No. 1060 of December 16, 2015, licensed intermediary foreign employment companies cannot take money in advance. Payment for their mediation services should be carried out exclusively after signing a contract with a foreign employer.

The requirement of prepayment for consultation, sending documents to the employer, etc. is an indicator of possible dishonesty of the agency. If you are told: “Give 150 euros and you will go to Poland for a cool job” - this is most likely a fraud.
3. Not a work visa, but any other

To work in another country you need to go only on a work visa and not otherwise: tourist, cultural and other visas are clear signs of the illegal aspects of employment.
4. The secrecy of employment details

If you are looking for work abroad and give only general information about the company you will potentially work for, do not give the exact name of the company, explain the scope of its activities with general phrases and also describe your future responsibilities, be sure of the planned fraud.

You have the right to know complete information about the future employer, work schedule, the amount of wages, travel and accommodation conditions, the procedure for medical and social insurance - about all the nuances of employment.
5. No questions about skills

Fraudsters almost never ask anything about the professional skills of a potential candidate - they take everyone who responds. This is logical if you do not need to hire people to work, but simply provide as many people as possible who will pay money for employment. They don’t hire like that. A real employer will always ask what you know and what experience you have, ”explains Sergey Marchenko.
6. Manipulation with the contract

Do not sign documents blindly, carefully read your contract, which, incidentally, should be translated into your native language.

Never put your signature on a blank sheet of paper, do not succumb to persuasion of concluding a “double” labor contract (draft version with lower wages, etc.) and a contract that contains the conditions: “and other types of work”, “all types of work at the request of the employer. "
“The first job abroad should always be legal. Drive, take a closer look. Most often, you can find your next employer on the spot, who will pay more. When going to work for the first time, it is important to pay attention to reliability in the first place, and money will come with experience. ”

Another marker of illegal work - they often promise to pay more than for legal work. Many forget about caution and, seduced by high earnings, fall into the hook of swindlers. On this issue, Sergey Marchenko has good advice for applicants:

“The first job abroad should always be legal. Drive, take a closer look. Most often, you can find your next employer on the spot, who will pay more. When going to work for the first time, it is important to pay attention to reliability in the first place, and money will come with experience. ”
7. The struggle for the original passport

Do not give the original passport to potential employers under any pretext! A copy of the passport is needed when applying for documents; you personally show the original passport to the border guards when crossing the border. There is no reason and can not be any reason to give the original to anyone. The request to give the original documents for safety before arriving at the place of work or the wording “this is a prerequisite” should alert you.

How to remind yourself after the interview

Specify dates for an interview While still at the interview, at the end of the conversation, be sure to specify how the company will communicate its decision and in what time frame if the interviewer does not speak about it. Ask when you are waiting for feedback, and if it will be convenient if you remind yourself of yourself by letter or call after this time. On the other hand, remember that in some companies the procedure for hiring a new employee is blurred over time. One responsible person on a business trip, the second - on vacation, someone else on sick leave or in an emergency. You can complain about the mess in the organization, but it can be just a human factor, because of which you may not be answered in the allotted time. And in this case, you need to act independently. Write a letter after the interview A so-called letter of thanks is optional. Its presence or absence practically does not affect the final decision on the candidate. But this is a great tool of busin...

How to talk about your shortcomings at an interview

1. Objectivity Do not say that you have no shortcomings. Everyone has disadvantages, no need to be shy. In order to grow and develop professionally, we must objectively evaluate ourselves. Admit that you, like all people, have flaws, tell us how you work on yourself to get rid of them. It’s good if you already have some results in this direction. Do not forget to mention them - this is a great opportunity to demonstrate, by example, the ability to learn and develop. 2. Turning disadvantage into advantage Each flaw is a kind of virtue. The main thing is to look at it from the right side. Look carefully at the job description before you go for an interview. Match the items in the description with your benefits. Is it possible to interpret some of your disadvantages as advantages? And vice versa? For example, if you apply for a position of a manager of a sales department, the disadvantage is “excessive attention to detail”, for example: “I usually spend too much time listening ...
